Two trees standing tall,
So tall, in fact, the space between them is
A great chasm
Opening up or opening down,
It's hard to tell.
I see blue sky above, but why,
I ask,
Is it so dark where I stand?
A change in perspective...
Then I see light,
Light so bright it bridges the great deep.
I can touch the sky,
Scale the trees that once seemed
Too tall to climb.
And I know
A Presence, palpably real,
Has descended on my heart.
The lows and the highs. Perhaps you've been there, too. Wondering when the never-ending cycle will cease, when you will be able to climb without crashing to the ground.
If I can offer you any hope today, it is this (it is not a short answer, nor the easy one, but it is true).
For those of us with major or manic depression, there is help. Great advancements in treatment, from carefully monitored medications to various kinds of counseling and other therapies, are working wonders every day. I am living proof.
But the dark days will still come. Our emotions will rise and fall. What then?
We can look up. Up to the One Who never changes, Whose light never grows dim. The One Who ultimately makes the treatments and the wonders that they work. The One Who is willing to come into our hearts and lift us out of the pit... Forever.
He is Jehovah Rapha, the "God Who Heals."
Simply trust in Him.
"Loving God, I pray for those whose day is dark and dreary. May they find victory over their depression. Send Your presence to brighten their corner wherever they are. May Your love and light surround even the darkest place."

Oh my! Those two images said it all. What a startling freedom, an unexpected 'aha!' moment.
ReplyDeleteWhat a courageous, inspiring blessing you are ...
Perspective. Yes and amen.
Thank you, dear Linda. Your presence here always warms my heart, and your perspective sharpens my mind and stirs my spirit.
DeleteHallelujah that ours is a God of "startling freedom" and "unexpected 'aha's"!
Rest in His Peace tonight,

Well presented.
ReplyDeleteEvening greetings to you, Ida. I'm delighted you stopped by.
DeleteIsn't it amazing how God's everlasting arms both raise us up and catch us when we fall? He's always there to support and sustain us. What a wonderful blessing!
Grace to you,
HBHW
Looking up and saying a prayer for all those who struggle with depression. I've been in that place and I know those dark days can still come but I keep looking up. Grateful that He is always there. Blessings.
ReplyDeleteDear Beth,
DeleteThanks so much for sharing your journey with us... Depression is a dark road, but somehow, knowing that others have been there, too, makes it seem less scary.
And to know that the God of the universe is willing to walk every single step of the way with us, all the way to victory, is truly awesome. He loves us that much.
In Christ's love,
HBHW
I understand. I have struggled with depression, off and on, since I was about 5 years old, and now am 69. The Lord does step through and help. He truly is IT, forever and ever. AND I loved your photos. I'm a "tree-er". Bless you.
Delete"He truly is IT." Yes, Caryjo!
DeleteWow, since you were five years old... What a testimony. It's so hard to think of a little child going through depression. Mine developed as a young adult. My heart goes out to you and to others who face this battle at such an early age. I admire your courage and persistence.
Glad you enjoyed the trees... They were the two tallest sugar maples I ever saw!
Wishing you peace tonight,
HBHW
